One way to see the drive for austerity is as an application of a sort of reverse Hippocratic oath: “First, do nothing to mitigate harm”. For the people must suffer if neoliberal reforms are to prosper.

Deep thought
The use of "library group" as a putdown says far more about the speaker than about the target.
I was really offended at the put down of Margeret Atwood. She is not one of my favorite authours in general but her book Orynx and Crake is one of the finest Scii Fi books ever. She is one of the greatest living Canadians, for Ford to slam her for having an informed opinion made me furious, not with Ford but with those that would support such a combination of ignorance and arogance. http://thinkingaboot.blogspot.com/2011/07/atwood-vs-ford.html
That would be cause for embarrassment in any reasonable public figure as well. But given the Fords' clear strategy of playing up a "buffoon like you vs. elite like them" dichotomy, can we say for sure that any of his comments weren't fully planned?
