Coming soon to a country near you...

Yes, it's telling that Stephen Harper's spin on the U.S. debt ceiling crisis is to pretend that the problem has more to do with "the U.S. debt and fiscal situation" than his sister party's choice to hold the country hostage.

But since he's apparently willing to talk, isn't it worth asking whether Harper is interested in offering the slightest reassurance that his party won't do the same in Canada when it gets the chance?

    gets the chance links to another accidental deliberations post.  Unfortunately that in turn links to a "this doesn't exist any more", which rather blunts the whole thing.

    Actually it's the previous post that makes the point: if there's going to be U.S.-style gridlock in Canada in the foreseeable future, it'll be the result of Harper's stacked Senate deciding it isn't prepared to accept future changes in the composition of the House of Commons. And considering how much power Harper exerts over his Senate caucus, I'd think it's well worth pushing him to answer whether he'd allow or encourage that outcome.
